- Mitosis: cell division in which the nucleus divides into nuclei containing the same number of chromosomes.
- Meiosis:is a special form of cellular division that produces daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes as the original parent cells. During the first part of meiosis the homologous chromosomes line up and are separated.
- Cell: the basic structural and functional unit of all organisms; cells may exist as independent units of life or may form colonies or tissues as in higher plants and animals.
The diference between a plant cell and an animal cell is that all animals have an animal cell, which is kind of like a normal cell, and plants have plant cells because they need special parts, that only the plant cell has in order to go throgh respiration and photosinthesis.
- Gene:a segment of DNA that is involved in producing a polypeptide chain; it can include regions preceding and following the coding DNA as well as introns between the exons; it is considered a unit of heredity; "genes were formerly called factors".
- Chromosome:are made of molecules of DNA and proteins called histones. DNA found in chromosomes contains the genetic information that directs the biological activity inside the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. Prokaryotic cells do not package their DNA into chromosomes, but its important to remember prokaryotes like bacteria do have DNA.

- Sister Chromatids: are two exact copies of a chromosome attatched together by a structure called a centromere. Sister chromatids are created during the interphase portion of the cell cycle when each of the chromosomes synthesizes a copy of itself.
